A Story Rooted in Integrity and Craftsmanship

Scott Clements learned the construction business the old-fashioned way — by doing the work himself. At nine years old, he was working summers for his father’s AC company, roughing in houses. By ten, he was helping finish his family’s Jim Walters home room by room — learning plumbing, electrical, trim work, and sheetrock while his family lived in the one completed room.

Growing up, Scott's family didn't come from means, seven siblings lived in a house they finished room by room. But those early years taught him something invaluable: hard work and attention to detail were the path forward. "It set in me when I was young," he recalls. "I knew exactly the kind of life I wanted to build."

That drive shaped everything that followed. By nineteen, Scott was running multi-million dollar commercial projects — hospitals, high-rises, semiconductor clean rooms. A decade with national homebuilders like KB Homes and Portrait Homes taught him the systems that make building efficient, and the pricing games he’d later refuse to play.

When Scott founded S. Clements Homes in January 2007, he brought a different approach to Northeast Texas. The first four houses were built for $110,000 each — Scott and his brother doing the plumbing rough-ins themselves, tiling floors at night after working his day job. One of those original photos still hangs in his office today.

Fixed-Price Contracts

“If you sign a contract with us for $450,000, it’ll be $450,000 when we’re finished. And if it goes over, it’s because you changed something — because we’re not changing anything.”

That’s the S. Clements promise. No cost-plus games where invoices can be manipulated. Your price is locked.

No Markup on Upgrades

Want to upgrade your granite from Tier 3 to Tier 6? You pay only the price difference — not a 25% markup.

Payment After Work

We’ve taken over too many projects from builders who took $50,000 deposits and disappeared. That’s not how we operate.

You don’t pay us until we’ve done the work. The way it should be.

Most custom builders take 18 months. We complete homes in six without cutting corners.

Scott spent years at KB Homes watching customers sit through painful upgrade meetings. “I had a book this thick,” he recalls. “Do you want a patio light for $100? Do you want a switch to turn on your front porch light? $200. Every single item.”

By the time he started S. Clements Homes, he was done with that approach. “I was so burned out with that approach. I wanted everything already in there. When you come in, you’re getting top-of-the-line everything. That’s how we do business.”

When Scott founded S. Clements Homes, he made a decision that changed how homes are built in Northeast Texas. Instead of a base package with endless upgrade fees, every S. Clements Custom Home™ starts with premium features included.

The reasoning is simple: “I wasn’t building little starter houses. I was going to build a super nice house, but give people a fair price. Put all the stuff in it that everybody upgrades to, but give it to you at a flat rate.”

No $7 charge for a patio light. No $200 switch to turn on your porch lights. Just quality, included.

The difference? They still can’t match the price. At $160/sq ft, competitors are charging $300.

We complete most custom homes in six months — half the industry average — without cutting corners. Here’s what the journey looks like.

Meet with Scott personally to discuss your vision, review plans, and get a fixed-price quote — often in the same meeting. No weeks of waiting, no runaround.

Finalize your plans and select your finishes. Everything is documented on a shared spreadsheet you can access anytime.

Construction

Watch your home take shape with walkthroughs at key milestones: after foundation, after framing, before drywall. Our crews have worked together for 20 years — they know exactly what we expect.

Final walkthrough together — anything not perfect, we fix before you get the keys. And we’re still here years later if you need us.

When the 2008 financial crisis hit, builders across Northeast Texas went under. They had specs on the ground and land to pay for. S. Clements Homes, just a year old, had neither.

“Everybody around here went out of business,” Scott recalls. “But we just kept growing. The houses people were still building? They came to us. Building 10-12 houses a year as a custom guy in ’08 was pretty good.” 

By 2012, S. Clements was the largest custom home builder in East Texas.
